Porcelain veneers are custom made to fit your teeth exactly, and are also custom colored so that they match the surrounding teeth. These characteristics of veneers make them virtually indistinguishable from the surfaces of your untreated teeth. At Nicholas Kemp Dentistry, our team specializes in dental veneers in Yorkville, and takes special steps to be sure your veneers provide a beautiful, natural looking smile of which you can be proud.
Constructing Your Custom Veneers
During your first visit, a thin layer of enamel will be removed from the front surface of your teeth to make room for the veneers. Veneers are very thin, and require very little reshaping of the teeth, unlike crowns, which require the tooth to be reduced in size before they can be set into place.
After your teeth are prepared for the veneers, the dentist will take a mold. This is done with a special, gel-like substance. The gel is placed in trays that are then placed in your mouth. When you press your teeth down into the trays, the gel takes the shape of your teeth. The gel takes a few seconds to harden, and then is removed from your mouth. The cosmetic dentist sends the resulting molds to an offsite lab, where your custom-made permanent veneers are manufactured. It usually takes a few days for the lab to complete the veneers. The veneers will then be permanently affixed to your teeth.
Long-Lasting, Durable Beauty for your Smile
Although porcelain veneers are made of very thin material, the porcelain bonds to your teeth and becomes very durable when it is affixed with a special adhesive. During the second part of the two-part process, your dentist will use this special adhesive material to apply your permanent veneers. In these two easy steps, you will have a perfect, natural-looking smile.
